1966 Mercedes 230SL, convertible
Several signs under the paint urged this owner to bring his Mercedes to us for a repaint.
The problem areas of the paint were found to have poor adhesion to the aluminum panels. Up to five layers of paint were removed from the body. The car had been hit in the front so the body will need to be fit to the hood, grille and headlamp assemblies for proper gap.
Before, fiberglass disguised these holes where a former shop cut rust from the lower rear quarter panels and front fenders. (These photos shown before we made our cuts to replace the metal with metal.)
Rust holes were found in the inner rocker panel.
Before repairing the small pull-hook holes in the header panel from someone's former repair job, we straightened and maneuvered the hood and fenders to make the hood and grille fit properly.
A little rust repair here, a little adjustment there and we will make this Mercedes look great again!
With the rust and body damage repaired and all panels test-fit, we prime and blocksand the car.
This stage of the process ensures the subtle imperfections are worked out for this driver quality restoration.
In the booth: Final sanded, prepped and masked. Sealed, base coat applied. Clearcoat applied.
All body parts painted and curing to be wetsanded and buffed.
Reassembly with polished panels.
